Belated Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas dear readers! The last few weeks have been very draining workwise and I haven't had time to post on my blog nor read any of your wonderful blogs either. The man and I are currently visiting family up the coast and I am really enjoying the much needed time away.

So I just thought i'd do a quick post via my mobile to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Oh and the pic is of my brand new dress model from Mr Honi! (How good is he!)

Lots of crafty love to you all- be back in the new year! X

Christmas craftin

Wowsers. It's been a while since my last post! Time is flying past me so quickly that I don't have time to sit at the computer blogging-but I've really missed not doing it!!
So here's a quick post via my mobile to show you some little chrissie wine charms I've made. There's 15 in total and I am pretty stoked with how they've turned out.
I used fimo and my grandfathers old leather carving tools to make the lettering. I think they'll do the trick on christmas day ensuring no-one drinks from someone elses glass!

My Creative Space Thursday

Hi Kids! Creative HQ here at the moment is busy, busy busy! I've got a small stall at a private meeting on the weekend, so I've been making stock to sell there - including the chrissie cards and general greeting cards you can see in production here.

Also I managed to finish the quilt I started on the weekend, and the girl I gave it to loved it so I'm happy!

Sorry for the post from my mobile, but I'm so darn busy at the moment that this is a quick way of saying hi!

This pic is of all the fruit pins I'm making for this weekend- whatever I don't sell I'll load onto Etsy

Hope you're all having a nice week and that you're not run off your feet!

Weekend Wrap-up

Hope everyone had a super duper weekend!! I spent Saturday shopping with 2 nearest and dearest girls. My best friend Aimz is getting married in May so we went dress shopping – and oh boy did the tears flow when I saw her in the wedding dress. She looked absolutely stunning.

On Sunday I visited some lovely gals out at the Mathilda Markets. I bought 2 travellers (from http://snailblazer.blogspot.com/my nieces – I know they’re going to love them!

You too can purchase some of Cass’ travellers at her website

And then on Sunday afternoon I made myself a fascinator for the Cup tomorrow, to match my vintage dress I purchased in Melbourne.

Living In...the Ladies Man

Taking the meme from my FAVOURTIE design blog Design*Sponge I have decided to do my own "Living in" theme today (See D*S' version here). Basically you pick a movie that you love and then use Polyvore to re-create the "feel" of the movie ie the decor, clothing or props etc.

I have picked the wonderful 1961 Jerry Lewis movie "The Ladies Man" which has the most magical doll's house style set. (sorry for the TV paused images!!)

Do you have a favourite movie that you'd like to live in?

My Creative Space Thursday

Well, a whole week has flown past without a post. I had toyed with the idea of doing Blogtober, but I'm glad I didn't commit. I haven't had time to breathe lately let alone post. Work has been insanely busy and so by the time I come home the last thing I feel like doing is blogging (even crafting has been a little light-on!)
It seems a few bloggers are feeling the same way at the moment. Time just seems to be flying past so quickly, I guess we're all feeling the need to spend time in the outdoors, with loved ones, or some quality time with ourselves (sorry if that sounded like Dr Phil )

Ok, rather than wasting more time blabbering on, how about I show you some pictures of the things I have been enjoying in My Creative Space. I've got a very small stall happening in a few weeks for a Rotary morning tea, so I've been ramping up the Fimo jewellery stock to sell.
A selection of the different types I'm making. The ones on the left are done in the candy cane way which is really fun to do
Close-up of the rosebud earrings
The 2 flowers are brooches, and the top 4 pieces are for necklaces. I just need to add them onto leather.
and my favourite piece above. I'm trialling some sewing pin toppers. This is the grape one, and I think I'll stick to making different sorts of fruits.
I also need to post about the WONDERFUL time I had in Melbourne with Mama Honi. We went down to see the Quilt Project in all it's glory. And oh my, it was amazing. Kirsty did such a wonderful job - thank you :) I will post pictures soon!!

Yes Dear....

"Yes Dear" was Mr Honi's response when I told him there was a red cat with blue eyes in our driveway......

So, I had to get photogtaphic evidence. Web searching tells me its an uber expensive breed of Cat called the Bengal Cat

cranky lookin thing huh!

With my David Attenborough style of tracking the cat, I also managed to come across a rather large bee swarm.

Just another day in the menagerie of our home!!

Nagging pays off.....

So after seeing Ms Clutterpunks to-die-for table, I nagged and nagged Mr Honi until we finally made the trip out to Ikea on the weekend to buy my very own.

I know that a poor tradesman blames his tools, but I have been struggling on my old table to complete Olivia’s quilt. The back side buckled and puckered because I was working on a very small table and wasn’t able to stretch the material out.

Now with my super-duper Norden gate leg table I have room to cut fabric and quilt with ease. And the sides fold down to the width of the drawers, meaning it can be packed away very neatly.

Mr Honi is also very happy as it means my sewing is restricted to this table and not strewn all over the dining table and living room!!

Girls, this is a highly recommended sewing table – maybe you can ask for one from Santa this year??

New Obsession

Ok, so I'm probably a little late jumping onto this bandwagon, but I am more than a little bit obsessed at the moment with Polyvore. For those that haven't used it, it's a site where you can make collages from iamges pre-loaded onto the site. It is soooooo much fun!!

This is my first set... have a play here!!

Oh the Vintage lovelieness!!

Wow, I managed to miss MyCreative Space Thursday again!! geez I'm having a shocker!

Anyway, I'll let you in on what I've been up to. When we cleaned out Grams we found 2 boxes full of slides of my family. So I jumped online and bought a basic slide scanner and have been a busy bee scanning each slide. 630-something slides later and I'm done!

Here's just a glimpse of some of my faves. My blogger layout likes to chop the edges off so click on the image to enlarge it. There's a few more images at my Flickr site too
The Aquarium at the Royal Easter Show when it was at Moore Park. It had so much more atmosphere in those days! I love everything about this picture - the font, the bunting and most importantly the saturated colours....
My mama in her Sunday best - notice the resemblance to me?? We're dead ringers of each other. I adore the gloves and the hat. Reckon kids of today would dress like this??
My Great grandparents living room. Oh what I would give to be able to see this house in real life. The images of it are just gorgeous. The chandeliers, the large wing chairs, patterned carpet and pink lounge! Oh my, just soo much vintage goodness!!
The lovely thing is that the dining table is at my folks place and i THINK that mirror is the one I have in my craft room now.

Whistle while you work

I went all out today- fifties style. Curled hair, fire engine red lippy and a nice head scarf completing the look. We weren't going anywhere- just kicking round the house. But I just wanted to doll myself up a bit while I did the housework then quilted!!

Does anyone else like to glam it up around the house?

Commissioned..

I got one of my first real commissions the other day. A girl at work wanted a matryoshka doll necklace. I wasn't too sure how I was going to do it, but then I thought of my Fimo and knew it was possible!
Here's the finished product and I am super happy with her!! I think I might make a few and sell them on Etsy. What do you think? Would you buy one? How much would you be prepared to pay for her?

My Creative Space Thursday

After another little posting hiatus, I'm back on the Thursday bandwagon!! This week I'm displaying some of the reasoning behind some of lazy posting.

I have been a busy bee and have almost completely tidied up my Creative Space, to allow for more effective Creativity!

Is that a fabric shop I hear you say?? No dear readers, this is my collection of vintage fabrics, many of which I found in my Grandmas sewing box. To tidy them up and store in them in a way which allowed for easy access, I cut up all the removalist boxes (seen below) and used them to make fabric bolts.

The other benefit of this exercise (other than neatness) is that I can now see the wide variety of fabric I actually own!

And although the above looks a little messy, it is actually all my vintage tins which hold my colour coded threads and buttons, lace, and sewing bits and bobs.
This is the before shot. I'll take and After shot on my newly purchased Canon 1000D soon!!!!

New fave bag

This was my Grams beauty case and it is totally my new fave handbag! I'd been meaning to blog about it but I just remembered to when I saw a post on pottymouthmama's blog about lovely beauty case she found- its definitely from the same suite as mine!

Ps sorry for the absence. We had Gram's funeral last week and I haven't felt much like blogging. But I'm back now- regular posting has returned :)

My Husband the Jamie Drury wannabe

Mr Honi busted his guts the last couple of weekends to get the front and back gardens finished and then did a "backyard blitz" style reveal (where I had to close my eyes, then cry with delight when I saw the finished garden)

The Back Courtyard
Here's the "Mid Way" shot. I can't really call it the "before" shot though because it looked a hellava lot worse than this.

The courtyard was filled with so many plants that you could hardly open the back door!!!! We removed around 200 plastic pots!!!

The AFTER shot!! TA-DA!!

How neat does it look!! We've planted beautiful Gardenias alternating with lavender and 2 Yukkas. There are bamboo lantern poles with citronella wicks and solar powered garden lamps which look very pretty at night.
You can't see it, but to the left there is a small space where we'll attempt our own little vege garden (lets hope the possums don't attack this one!) and I'd like to have a citrus tree of some sort. Eden Gardens were selling Orange trees that had mandarin trees grafted to them, and Lemon trees that had a Lime tree graft. 2 trees in 1 - perfect for small gardens!!

Close Up Shot

and a close up of the Water feature and the BBQ area Mr Honi and Poppy Honi finished off on the weekend. There used to be 2 old miserable trees here that blocked out all the sunlight - stopping everything else from growing properly.

The Front Courtyard
The "Before" shot although again, this is only half the plants that were there. I must admit I adore plants, and this did feel very cosy but when it was messy, overgrown and filled with weeds

After Shot

Looking a lot cleaner and with so much more room to move. There's still a bit of work to do here- I'd like a day bed out there and some more "flower" pots not just plants.

Overall I think Mr Honi definitely did a good job of playing Jamie Drury!

Tea and Loveliness….

Darling readers, my sincerest “thankyou” for all of your lovely comments. I'm sitting here with a cuppa reading through everything you've written to me and I’m brimming with warm and fuzzy feelings. I’m continually amazed at the politeness, sweetness and supportive nature of the crafty blogger community.
I started this blog in May 07 and I don’t think I ever expected the directions this blog would take me. 320posts later and I’ve been a part of some truly wonderful things. I’ve made some really lovely friends especially through Brown Owls and I’ve loved going to Craft Fairs, having crafty meetings and pub catch-ups.

But most un-expected of all is the daily loveliness of all your comments. I’m overwhelmed at the inspiration I gain from having a look at all of your blogs. If you comment, I will always have a squiz at your blog. I may not always leave a comment – but I do try to:)

I appreciate everyone who reads my blog - even more so when you leave me such heart-warmingly beautiful comments. I respond to each and every one of you, but sometimes I get the no.reply@blogger email address and I just can’t find an email address in your blog to respond to you individually, so please don’t take it personally!

So thankyou, you’ve ALL made my day

My Creative Space Thursday

Well, My Quilt block is 99.9% done!! YIPPEE!! Just a few finishing touches to go.

I am so proud of myself, because this is one of the very first projects that I have actually finished within a set time frame!! Normally I'm still finishing off 10 things all 2 years overdue!! Needless to say Olivia's Quilt has been placed on the backburner till I finished this. Now I'm hoping I can finish it off in a couple of weeks.
Also in my creative space this week are some more Fimo creations (following on from yesterdays post on Fimo)
These flowers are going to be a pair of earrings and a brooch I think. The earrings may be a bit big though and I might end up looking like Dame Edna!!

Re-kindled love.

Oh dear Fimo, you came into my life when I was at the tender age of 8. I loved and adored you, I collected your every variation- “brights”, “fluros” and my all time favourite Glow-in-the-dark. I lovingly moulded you into creations that adorned the ears of my mother and provided many people with super lovely presents (like little glow-in-the-dark cat figures).

During my turbulent teens I let you slowly decay and harden in my toy room until the day I resurrected you only to find that your once malleable form now crumbled in my hands.

You do not know the delight I experienced when I glanced upon your bright form in Lincraft the other day. We’ve both changed a lot since I was 8 – I have matured and aged where you have clearly improved over time by now expressing a flamboyant side by including Glitter in your form and a new “softness” never experienced before (no longer requiring many hours of kneading). Yet your familiarity is still there, including your glow-in-the-dark gloriousness.

Let us never part again – friends and family, prepare yourselves for an onslaught of glow-in-the-dark cat figures this Christmas!
and little girlie brooches!

Are you a good witch, or a bad witch?

Mr Honi and I worked furiously this weekend (he did all the manual labour type stuff) and we finally got our back courtyard garden sorted out. I will post some before and after shots soon. It is now our own little tranquil haven.

After much searching, I realised that I couldn’t find a pair of red ruby “Dorothy” slippers that matched what I wanted, so on Saturday night I decided to make some. I used:
- a pair of ballet flats ($14.95 from Rubi Shoes)
- a glue mixture I made up which consisted of red glitter poster paint, mixed with Tiger grip craft glue (which dries clear)
- some red glitter.
Then all I did was paint the glue onto the shoe in sections and tipped the glitter over the gluey area. I then let them dry for about 48 hours. I totally love them, and the glitter seems to be holding pretty well!

I'm considering making customer orders....what do you think??

Bum...

It's always good when the company picking up your skip bin, KNOCKS OVER A WALL and doesn't tell you, so that you just come home to find it like that!!!!!

Apparently the office chick "claims" she hasn't heard from their driver. Wonder if they'll attempt to tell us oh-so innocently "it was like that when we got here, there's no way we did that when we moved the 2 tonne bin with a truck!"

Not happy Jan....

UPDATE: As at 10th sept this company is denying that they've done the damage and that "something else" has managed to knock over a double bricked wall between the hours 8.30 and 11.30 on a Friday morning.

Ooo Ahh Just a little bit ooo aahh a little bit more!

I've totally had that song in my head for a few days now! Each time I think, "just a little bit more to go on the quilt" that song floods into my head.

Anyways, here are the pics I wanted to post yesterday for My Creative Space. The dragonfly has hand sewn sequin wings, and I'm loving the raised herringbone stitch for the leaves - as taught here at Primrose design

and here's the full view. I am having so much fun doing this!!
