My Creative Space Thursday

This weeks creative space....brought to you from my lovely new stable table. I am slowly but surely maknig my way through writing all our wedding invitations.
We bought an embosser to do our initials on the cover. My bridesmaids dresses are the colour of the ribbon

Thanks Kirsty for such a great game! It really keeps me on track with blogging!

One day..

I will have these things in my house......maybe we can sneak them onto our bridal registry?????

The Eames Chair
Mr Honi says that this would be HIS chair, but if you ask me, it’s the perfect chair for putting up my feet while I hand embroider!

The Arne Jacobson Egg Chair.
I guess I’d have this one if Mr Honi used the Eames chair. It’s cosy and comfy and so lovely and bright!

1960’s egg chair.
Wow. I seem to have a thing for chairs. I don’t know how comfy this would be- but it sure is cool. Might just have it as an occasional chair in the craft room.

Ball Clock – this would go in my kitchen for sure. I’d like a bit of a retro kitchen. Kind of like the one at Rose Seilder House (if you’ve seen that one)

Gypsy chandelier. This one is up for Auction on eBay at the moment. I think I’d have this in the bathroom. A white tiled bathroom, with this chandelier and brightly coloured tiles in the shower. Ooooo I can’t wait till we have our own place I can decorate properly!

And this Gant table as my sewing table. It’s big and study and just perfect for crafting.

Thrifted find and a thrify helper

I popped into my favourite local Vinnies with the thought that I would just look.

No buying, just looking.

I don't know who I was trying to fool really.

Of COURSE I couldn't walk out empty handed!! When Mr Honi came in he found me struggling with 2 arm fulls of stuff. He spent 5 minutes putting everything back but we agreed that our budget could stretch to this doona cover. I simply adore the fabric!

Then we went into Myer to do our bridal registry (using their electronic scanner things was sooooo much fun!) and I found this book and HAD to buy it.

BUT....they listed my Vinnies, yes MY VINNIES as the top one in Sydney! I was devastated. No wonder it's been getting busier and busier.
Then I realised that the book has "outed" a lot of peoples favourite vinnies and secret squirrel shops. I kind of feel like a bit of a cheater now. It's so much more fun scouting for op shops or stumbling upon them when you're out.

I do love this book, but i think I'll use it sparingly. I don't want to encroach on other thrifters territory!

Happy Australia Day!!

Mr Honi and I and a few friends trekked into the city today to celebrate Australia Day. It was a really great day - we don't really venture into the big smoke very often -even though we're only 15 mins drive away from it!! It's just too crazy sometimes!

Anyways, it was great to see some really cool things - this flower bed in Circular Quay,

the vintage double decker buses they had running throughout the day (i would have LOVED to have gone on one)

The Strongbow tree of chairs that they're using in their commercials at the moment

and a cool floating stage that hosted a range of bands all day.

We watched the tall ships come into the harbour, waived flags, had a few drinks, laughed, watching the fascinating passing parade and all in all had a lovely day!

My Creative Space Thursday

I've taken a bit of a different tack today. I've been hellishly busy this week and haven't dedicated nearly enough time to crafting. So for this weeks "creative space" I've decided to post a pic of one of my drawings - that has ended up on the wrist of a friend.

It's quite an honour to have something you've drawn, tattooed forever onto someone else!!

the man can cook (and buy REALLY good pressies)

Mr Honi decided to whip up a batch of cupcakes this weekend from the "Crabapple Cupcake Cookbook"

and Oh My God they turned out amazing!! He iced them, used sprinkles and sugar flowers.
I want cupcakes for the wedding and I totally reckon Mr Honi could make them!! Might be a bit too stressful 2 days before the wedding though!

Anyway, they rocked.

PLUS he bought me a super wonderful crafting stable table! It's Maxwell and Williams and looks just like a vintage painting of roses.

and he bought me a copy of a1968 Woman's weekly!!

a fiancee who cooks and supports my crafting addiction- what more could a girl want! ;)

Yellow and Orange

a trial run at fabric printing using dark navy fabric with yellow and orange paint
it's got a kind of retro look to it and i'm pretty stoked with it!

getting redder

theres a bit of dust on them to stop the million bugs attacking it. but it's nearly eating time!!

Storm in a teacup

a candle in a teacup I made the other day. soooo easy!!

My Creative Space Thursday

This week sees my kitchen bench as my creative space (thankyou to Kirsty over at Kootoyoo) My very messy kitchen with the washing up still lying around for all to see! (Mr Honi had a fit when I started to do this on the coffee table, and with good reason I guess. I do have a tendency to spill things!!)
This is my first attempt at my fabric printing.
  • I used scrap booking foam I bought from Riot Art for $1 a sheet. It's really easy to cut and then super-glue onto perspex as a stamp. Plus you can scrub and wash it when you're done and re-use it lots of times!! ("Stitch. Rip.Repeat" had the brilliant idea for this!)
  • Then I just used fabric paints (also from riot art) for the stamping. It gave it an interesting texture but I think I need to spread the paint a bit more evenly.
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Although, I read a GREAT screen printing tutorial over at Anna Laura's blog which is well worth the read (Good descriptions of what you need to do, suppliers for stock and great "action" shots) so I might attempt that this weekend!

Cat's outta the bag...

My next sneak peek…..

Ok, I’m TERRIBLE at keeping secrets. I’ve decided to attempt making some fabric. It’s been a burning desire of mine for a while now. I’m attempting some home printing, but I’d also like to have a professional make it – to avoid it looking all “home-made” rather than “hand-made”!!!

Can anyone recommend a good place to have custom material printed? I have just registered for Spoonflower but does anyone else have any places they’ve used and had a good experience with??

Sneak Peak..

at my new project for 2009.....

Favourite time of the day

Mr Honi and I sit down to relax after dinner. I have a cuppa, Dave has a coffee and we have a piece of dark chocolate or a biscuit. And it HAS to be served on a nice tray.
(We’ve also started taking fish oil tablets so that our skin looks nice for the wedding!! BUT, we both managed to choke on the monster pills last night)

What’s your favourite time in the day?

Caught in the act

No, Mr Honi and I have NOT put lipstick on this little guy, but he does look like a trannie though don't you think?

We spotted the plant eating culprit last night and decided to give it a bit of food in an attempt to deter it from eating our plants!
(know it's bad to feed possums, but it was a healthy plum. We've probably only encouraged him to return now!!)

Then his little mate appeared in our drain pipe!!

My Creative Space Thursday

The lovely Kirsty over at Kootoyoo has started a new game! YAY!! Basically rather than only posting whats on my desk etc, you can post about wherever you've been crafty.

So, last night my creative space was my bed! Mr Honi bought me the BEST present EVER for Chrissie- a little book light that I can clip only my sewing to see better when I'm stitching at night!

Thrifted finds

Some pretty napkins and on old bed sheet I picked up from my local, reliable Vinnies. I live in a place that is densely populated with "older" people so there are always some great finds there!

These goodies are destined for a summer dress!

From little things, HUGE things grow!!

This is our tomato plant, and it's nearing a height taller than me.

Sorry for the dark, "midnight lurker" style picture, but I just had to take a pic of our tomato "tree" before I forget (and I remembered at like 10pm last night!!)

We're still yet to harvest our first tomato but they are mammoth in size!! I just can't wait to taste them.
These are the only things left after the possums ate our Chilli's, chives, rocket and fuchsias.

Quilting Success

Well, 400 and something triangles later, and I've finally finished the top of my quilt!! (it's only taken a year and a half!)

I think I might take it into Material Obsession and get their help with what the hell I do next!! I have no idea whether to hand quilt, machine quilt in squiggles, lines, shapes or patterns!

I must say though, I'm pretty darn impressed with how its turned out!

Love is everywhere.....

Well hello 2009...i like the look of you

Stevie thinks it's all just a bit too much but I'm super excited about 2009.

Mr Honi and I started the year off with a big, exciting bang and I intend to keep that feeling going this whole year. In April, we get married and I begin my life as a "Mrs" - i can't wait.

I also intend to turn Honi Design into something more. I'm going to start the business I've always dreamt of - thanks to this little "kick up the bum" speech from Pip at Mikes.

So expect to be hearing a lot more from me this year......
