Pays to Concentrate..

This last week has been completely draining- mentally and emotionally which has meant a bit of a blog hiatus and a bit of a crafting break too. Work has been all consuming, then my car gave up the ghost and the little thing I had removed from my face turned out to be a squamous cell carcinoma so I had to go back in to the clinic to have it all cut out leaving me with 3 stitches on the side of my head.

As you can imagine I was well in need of some therapeutic crafting so I decided to lock myself in the craft room and make a shirt I've been planning for months. I've had the material sittting there waiting for me to transform it for a year I reckon!

I was so gosh darned proud of my effort. It’s Simplicity pattern 2807 – one of their Project Runway ones. I’ve made a few of my own alterations which look great considering it’s the first shirt I’ve ever made! It still needs a good press and some buttons.

Everything was going smoothly until I tried it on and realised that I have sewn the sleeves on INSIDE OUT!!!!

So, tonight will be spent doing some therapeutic unpicking….

That is kinda funny in light of how awful the rest of your week was. I hope you are well and recovering nicely.

aw nuts, apart from the sleeves it is a pretty spiffy blouse, go you for pulling off the ruffles etc and with a silky sort of material.

Ouch - I hope your face isn't too sore and that you're on the mend.

I do like reading of other people sewing things on inside out or back to front. It makes me feel better about the jacket sleeves I sewed on backwards, the waistband I sewed inside out, the pyjama pants where I incorrectly matched the crotch seam as the inner leg ... and it goes on!!!

Your shirt is a fabulous. Its a beautiful colour and design - very clever for a first shirt (we'll ignore the sleeve incident!)

For your first shirt, I'd say YAY on such a tricky design. YAY for the straightness and neatness. YAY for sewing right to wrong side, and welcome to many more years of doing it (I catch myself just in time these days) because now you're showing off how NEAT your seams are! Well done!

Great work! This is a great achievement! My first shirt is long gone because it was so bad I had to attach velcro to close it properly. Ick. Well done lady!

Ouch! That sounds extremely painful. Hope you're recovering ok.

That shirt is absolutely beautiful. The first time I set in sleeves, I did the exact same thing..hee hee

My spatial thinking is basically non-existent, so that is pretty par for the course for me. Sometimes I have been known to do it three times in a row. Though, that is usually about 3AM, and I take it as a sign I probably should be sleeping. :p
