My Fabric Covered Shoes @ My Creative Space

I decided to be a bit thrifty and make some new shoes out of some old ones i longer wore. I used some pretty fabrics and i covered my red shoes to make pretty new shoes!

i used some gorgeous tape measure fabric for the heels

and a bit of lace, buttons and hot-fix crystals to decorate! What do you think? I'm really happy with them!

My Creative Space

This week for My Creative Space I've been painting/drawing again for the 'Cos We Can' group. Having fortnightly deadlines and a theme is really inspiring for me. It challenges me to get going and create something that I normally wouldn't set aside time to do. I'm having great fun doing it too! This week's theme was play......and here's my drawing

My Creative Space

Hands up who likes 'travelling crafts'?

I do- I love them! Something you can just whack into your handbag and take it with you anywhere. And when you have a spare minute you can just whip it out and stitch away! (this post was also done on the run via my mobile)

This week MyCreative Space is my travelling case where I am working on another hexy baby quilt-from gorgeous Beatrix Potter fabric.
I bought this great carry-all at the Craft Fair and its perfect for travelling as it keeps everything neat and tidy and very safe.

EDIT: A few of you have asked about my "traveller" case. I bought it at the Sydney Craft Fair at Darling Harbour this year. It's made by a company called Yazzii and details can be found here.

My Creative Space

My Creative space this week is my stable table on the lounge in front of the heater. Too cold to sew-my fingers don't move properly in this cold!! So, I decided to do a little painting (also part of my fortnightly 'cos we can' art project)

My Creative Space Thursday

This week for my creative space, I managed to leave the work laptop at home at headed out to enjoy some time with the Brown Owls. We went to a new venue this week which was great. We used the sewing machines there and walked through this tutorial on how to make the perfect zippered pouch. I only managed to get through a bit of mine as I spent more time talking.
It was great to get out and get a bit of my crafty mojo back – in a very creative space!

My Creative Space Thursday

This is my creative space this week (after a long hiatus!) I’m currently in a pattern making class, where we make patterns from existing garments. It’s not just “tracing” but working out how to position darts, button holes etc. It’s very interesting, and will mean that I can re-make some of my favourite clothes that are now stained/worn etc.

My Creative Space Thursday

Just a bit of a sneak peak at the Skirt I'm making for my sewing class. It's good because I'm learning how to sew properly- losing all the bad habits I've taught myself, and finally finding out exactly what on earth a 'nap' is; and no, it's not a short sleep!

The Skirt is a cotton sateen, Simplicity pattern #2807 and is sitting on beloved dress form that Mr Honi bought me.
In the background you can see a glimpse of my inspiration wall too.

My Creative Space Thursday

Can you believe I actually had too many creative spaces this week to choose from! I've got the Crafty mojo going on, and I'm loving it. Normally when the inspiration overflows I get "Craft Jam" where I have too many ideas to action any of them. But planets have aligned somewhere and I'm in the groove.

A quick run down of current projects include:
- continuing with my 200 crochet blocks
- another baby quilt- an appliqued one I'll show you soon
- some "light up" jewellery
- a skirt (Miss Luzi and I are doing a sewing class together)
- a drawing project
- some vintage lace headbands
and a couple of other BIG ideas bubbling away in my head

So rather than pick one of these projects, I thought I’d share some of the creativeness that’s been a’happenin in the kitchen. I’ve started to review cookbooks and plan our meals – which leads to planned shopping which equals less wasted food AND no last minute takeaways which also equals a better diet and losing weight!! YIPPEE!!

One of this weeks dishes above was lamb chops with melted goats cheese served with steamed asparagus, sliced home grown tommies a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and slithered almonds. Takes 10 mins to whip up and is tasty and healthy.

My Creative Space Thursday

The other day I finished off a baby blanket for a friend of mine who is due in a couple of weeks. I am getting MUCH better at planning my projects and making sure I finish them by a due date (rather than 6 months after the baby is born!!) Plus I am forcing myself a bit more to only work on ONE project and finish it before I start a bazillion others!

The blanket is a cotton flannel, with English paper pieced appliquéd flowers across the top, with matching binding around the edges. The spotty material is from spotlight and the centres are Japanese fabric with monkeys, deer and mushrooms.

This is a picture of the hexes before I sewed them onto the blanket.

My Creative Space Thursday

It seems that most of you were tickled pink by my craftastrophies!! So, by popular demand here is the first train-wreck (this one was much better than the blue attempt- not so much hideousness!)

This is AFTER being blocked too!! I’m still puzzled by the “growth” in the top left corner. The whole block reminds me of those tests that were done on Spiders under the influence, and the webs they built…
Thankyou all - especially Amy for your help! Turns out I TOTALLY miscounted from row one, putting the entire thing out of whack.

But I do feel that I need to show proof that I CAN do the granny square. So for my Creative Space this week (which happened to be the lounge) I channelled the uber-creative Kirsty and attempted her “mini granny” (as seen here)…..
Turned out pretty swish I think!

My Creative Space Thursday

My creative space this week has been sitting in the waiting room at the hospital.
I'm playing Nurse Nancy to my dear Mr Honi - and before you ask; No, there are no costumes involved!!!

He had surgery yesterday to strip the bad veins from his legs. This picture doesn't look nearly as bad as it looks in real life - so many little nicks and cuts, and they're all sticking to the TED stocking. Poor Mr Honi.

So, sitting in the waiting room at the hospital yesterday was perfect time to work on a bit of crochet. I've started on my first attempt of the 200 blocks - seems i need to brush up on ending my rows though, as I've not quite mastered that yet. I'm fine with Granny squares, but working in rows is a new skill for me.

Oh, and I was getting a hand cramp the other day, and rather than go out and buy a new hook, I fashioned myself a wide grip from Fimo - and viola no more cramping!! What do you think?

My Creative Space Thursday

Wow. It’s great to be participating in My Creative Space again. I find it gives me a bit of direction, a focus, something to work towards – a goal to finish a project so that I can blog about it.
EDIT - just checked Kirsty's site - is it still MCS happening??

I’ve got 2 things to show you this week. Firstly, I gave myself a little bit of colour therapy and colour co-ordinated my fat quarters. I’ll have to take some pictures of the cupboards because they look AWESOME now!! (click on the image to see it properly. Darned blogger cuts the edges off my pics!!) I can now easily create colour schemes for quilts etc.

The second thing I have to show to you is a little electrical experiment. I have always adored “mini” things - like little scenes, doll houses, viewmasters – little things that you can imagine yourself inside. I should post some pics of my glorious childhood dollhouse. I still dream about living inside it! Plus I have my little collection of Mini viewers.

So, I decided to make a prototype for a little mini viewer.

I bought a collection of mini circus people from Vinnies and have been thinking about what I can do with them. So I took an old film canister, some LED lights, electrical wire and a battery and created a little mini light box with a light-up scene showing a little sword swallower.

What do you think?? (click on the images to enlarge!)

My Creative Space Thursday

Hi Kids! Creative HQ here at the moment is busy, busy busy! I've got a small stall at a private meeting on the weekend, so I've been making stock to sell there - including the chrissie cards and general greeting cards you can see in production here.

Also I managed to finish the quilt I started on the weekend, and the girl I gave it to loved it so I'm happy!

My Creative Space Thursday

Well, a whole week has flown past without a post. I had toyed with the idea of doing Blogtober, but I'm glad I didn't commit. I haven't had time to breathe lately let alone post. Work has been insanely busy and so by the time I come home the last thing I feel like doing is blogging (even crafting has been a little light-on!)
It seems a few bloggers are feeling the same way at the moment. Time just seems to be flying past so quickly, I guess we're all feeling the need to spend time in the outdoors, with loved ones, or some quality time with ourselves (sorry if that sounded like Dr Phil )

Ok, rather than wasting more time blabbering on, how about I show you some pictures of the things I have been enjoying in My Creative Space. I've got a very small stall happening in a few weeks for a Rotary morning tea, so I've been ramping up the Fimo jewellery stock to sell.
A selection of the different types I'm making. The ones on the left are done in the candy cane way which is really fun to do
Close-up of the rosebud earrings
The 2 flowers are brooches, and the top 4 pieces are for necklaces. I just need to add them onto leather.
and my favourite piece above. I'm trialling some sewing pin toppers. This is the grape one, and I think I'll stick to making different sorts of fruits.
I also need to post about the WONDERFUL time I had in Melbourne with Mama Honi. We went down to see the Quilt Project in all it's glory. And oh my, it was amazing. Kirsty did such a wonderful job - thank you :) I will post pictures soon!!

My Creative Space Thursday

Well, My Quilt block is 99.9% done!! YIPPEE!! Just a few finishing touches to go.

I am so proud of myself, because this is one of the very first projects that I have actually finished within a set time frame!! Normally I'm still finishing off 10 things all 2 years overdue!! Needless to say Olivia's Quilt has been placed on the backburner till I finished this. Now I'm hoping I can finish it off in a couple of weeks.
Also in my creative space this week are some more Fimo creations (following on from yesterdays post on Fimo)
These flowers are going to be a pair of earrings and a brooch I think. The earrings may be a bit big though and I might end up looking like Dame Edna!!

My Creative Space Thursday

I did have a lovely updated picture of my Quilt block, but I left my camera at home so you'll just have to check back tomorrow for a peek!!

Brown Owls was a complete classic last night - Amy from Badskirt has done a little write up here. I'll be taking orders for the "boob light" soon*

So now the only thing I can post about for my creative space this week is my cleaned out garage. It doesn't LOOK cleaned out, but it is compared to this pic. Most of the items I had up for grabs went out on council clean up as no-one really wanted them. But then most of the stuff was swiped from council clean up, so least it went to someones home!
*ok, so I won't REALLY be taking orders. You can purchase this dinky little light from Borders. I will however start charging people royalties if they decided to use their cleavage as a stabilizer / holder for the light ;)

My Creative Space Thursday

Just a quick snap of my bits and pieces coming together for The Quilt Project. I know I said I wasn't going to tell what I'm making it out of, but here's a bit of a sneak peak of the materials.
Tell ya what, I'm LOVING only working with red! It really forces you to think more about the design being great and not relying on the colour scheme.

This is my handbag travel sewing kit - mini scissors, mini unpicker, leather thimble, vintage needle book, threads and ziplock bag (for thread and material scraps) and it's all inside an OPSM case that was my Grandmas. Super handy size that I can take anywhere!

My Creative Space Thursday

I've finally finished my design for the Quilt Project!!!

Now I just have to start the stitching. It will be mixed media - but I'm keeping it a little bit secret as to what mediums I'll be using!!

My Creative Space Thursday

It doesn't look like much, I know. Every time I post a picture, the damn quilt still looks the same!! But I have now hand sewen the star onto some green fabric. The emboridery loop is fantastic for handsewing and quilting.
Plus I have paper pieced the other squares so it's all ready to simply sew straight onto the backing fabric and then I can start quilting it. Neicephew is due on the 15th so I'm hoping it stays in until then so I can finish it!!

As you can see, I also have my bag that I haven't unpacked since brown owls 2 weeks ago - an my beloved Holga which I've resurrected. I need to try and get out to do more photography.

And this is Mr Honi's creative space! His new tool shed! Here he is demonstrating the hilariously over sized screw driver.
PS - I will be posting the winner of the hankies tomorrow (last chance people!) - PLUS I will also put the sewing machine up for grabs :) I should probably have built up to it, but we need to get rid of it now to make space!!

My Creative Space Thursday on Friday

wow - I missed out on it yesterday!!!!!

For my Creative Space This week I'm working on some Google Sketch up stuff. This is my new very favourite application!! It's basically a 3D modelling tool, with all these interior design functionalities. You can also download all these pieces of well-known furniture too - you can see I used an Eames Chair (not that we can afford one though!)

It's free to download, and I have literally spent HOURS using it lately. It's also very user friendly and I highly suggest it for anyone planning a new home or small renovations. You can draw things to scale, select paint colours, carpet textures, wood floors and even customize it to drop in your own textures and paintings!!
