Brown Owls catch up

What a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning. 1 Cup of coffee, 3 cups of tea, a bit of crocheting and some lovely friends!

This is the wonderful "Coffee and a Yarn" cafe in Newtown

Plus I finally got to meet our newest little owl - and she is a complete doll!

Want to join the Sydney Brown Owls? send me an email at honidesign @ gmail . com (without the spaces) and include your name, preferred email address and a little bit about you and what crafts you like to do (and if you have any skills you could teach the rest of the group.)

My Creative Space Thursday

This week for my creative space, I managed to leave the work laptop at home at headed out to enjoy some time with the Brown Owls. We went to a new venue this week which was great. We used the sewing machines there and walked through this tutorial on how to make the perfect zippered pouch. I only managed to get through a bit of mine as I spent more time talking.
It was great to get out and get a bit of my crafty mojo back – in a very creative space!

Whats in a name..

My nearly finished name tag for Brown Owls tonight. I just need to cut it out and add the pin. I tried to use all my fave things - crochet, buttons, cross stitch, flowers, fimo, embroidery, bunnies, Japanese dollies and tea in a nice cup and saucer.
I used 3 layers of cardboard as the backing, and then used mod-podge to glue it all together. Mod Podge is wonderful stuff. It is a clear drying glue that acts as a bit of a lacquer and it doesn't warp paper

My Creative Space Thursday

I did have a lovely updated picture of my Quilt block, but I left my camera at home so you'll just have to check back tomorrow for a peek!!

Brown Owls was a complete classic last night - Amy from Badskirt has done a little write up here. I'll be taking orders for the "boob light" soon*

So now the only thing I can post about for my creative space this week is my cleaned out garage. It doesn't LOOK cleaned out, but it is compared to this pic. Most of the items I had up for grabs went out on council clean up as no-one really wanted them. But then most of the stuff was swiped from council clean up, so least it went to someones home!
*ok, so I won't REALLY be taking orders. You can purchase this dinky little light from Borders. I will however start charging people royalties if they decided to use their cleavage as a stabilizer / holder for the light ;)

My Creative Space Thursday

My Creative space this week, it filled with tissues, butter-menthols and codral clod and flu!!

I decided to drag myself from the couch to the table yesterday in an attempt to make myself feel a bit better from this nasty cold. As I only have 16 SLEEPS UNTIL THE WEDDING!! (OMG!!) I knew that I had to face my fears and finish this quilt so I can give it to the bub for her christening! I surprised myself and actually did a REALLY good job of machine quilting! I had visions of puckering, gathering, pulled stitches and general disasters, but it's turned out really, really well!!

Well that was until my sewing foot, decided to go a bit wonky and move itself under the needle which meant I sewed through plastic! Once I had done that, the needle continued to gravitate towards that hole and I kept on sewing through the hole. I used my bejeweller hot stick thing to melt that little bit of the plastic away, but it's sewing all wonky now.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?? Is it possible to quilt without this foot?? I only have ONE ROW to finish!!! I'm soo frustrated!!

Onto more frustration......because of my lurgy filled body, I had to say No to the Brown Owls meet last night. I was soo sad because I had been looking forward to it since the last one! Anyway, they were learning to crochet, so I decided to try it for myself.

I definitely haven't done it correctly though, because all my corners rounded themselves up.

So, it's now become a raspberry beret for my beloved Blythe
This is a great game, thanks Kirsty! If you want to play, hop on over here!

What a hoot!

Brown Owls last night was wonderful!

A night filled with cups of tea, delicious home made cakes and goodies (Jess is an AMAZING cook!) gossip, stitching and laughs.

It was lovely to meet other like minded girls. We all discovered each others passions and crafty aspirations and it seems we all want to crochet a “nana rug” for the coming winter.
We also had a great pile of craft supplies fo the "re-stash a crafter" drive.

Thankyou to our wonderful prefects for putting together some great kits (I’ll post some pics of the one I did when I finish it off) and for organising such a great night!

I can’t wait till the next meet!

Sydney Brown Owls Meet

Finally getting around to posting about the Sydney Brown Owls meet we had last weekend at Material Obsession in Gladesville.

It was lovely meeting Cass , Amy , Jess and Linda and chatting together about all things crafty while we stitched Kootoyoo's "sewing roll". It was a great morning, and I can't wait till our next catch up!
All of us stitching together. The place is FILLED wit the most gorgeous and inspiring quilts!

My creation from Kootoyoo's pattern. Also pictured are some gorgeous buttons that I got from Amy - and she also made a stunning Puzzle ball. I felt so spoilt! Cass also made some gorgeous little notebooks for each of us. I felt totally spoilt!! I forgot to photograph it all but I will soon :)
All the lovely goodies that Cass brought with her :)

Girls, it was a great day - thankyou!! Hopefully next meet some more Sydney Brown Owls like Ingrid, Anika and Corrie , Sheridan, Sarah, Kate, and Bianca can make it!!
