Christmas Baking

Well, we had a team Chrissie party, and I volunteered to make some biccies. I decided to get a little festive with the decorations. I am totally the new Martha Stewart!

Things are very hectic now in the lead up to Christmas. I’ve been nusy trying to make those last minute chrissie presents, but I keep forgetting to take piccies before I wrap them!!

I’m taking 2 weeks off work and doing completely nothing, so I will have plenty of time to get crafty and wipe the dust of my trusty old sewing machine.

Christmas Card Swap

Well I have been super busy making all my cards for Nikkishell's Christmas card swap. As you can see, my once neat craft room has been totally messed up - but i had a lot of fun doing it!!

Each card had to be made out of things that were either rececyled, or from your stash. I made a massive lot of cards last year, and had quite a lot of left over materials to use.

i like this one - i thoughtI was very clever making it too. I had some gorgeous Christmas fabric (only a tiny piece though) so I scanned it on the puter, and printed it out on recycled paper!! That way I can use as much as I want, and I won't run out!!

Think this is my fave - it's my Blythe (who i have owned for a couple of months now, but it still yet to be named!!) sitting in my garden in her little christams outfit I made her.
If you are a recipient of one of my cards, I hope you like them!! :)
To the girls who have sent me cards so far - I am LOVING them and am will post pics of them soon. Big Thankyous!!! xx

Nearly Christmas

Well it's nearly Christmas and I STILL haven't got my laptop fixed. I need to take it to a place which is about an hours drive away, and only open weekdays (typical) and so I really haven't been able to find the time to take it there. So posts have been sporadic when I find the time before / after work!

I finished my cards for the "postcard swap" through Nikishell's website. I had a lot of fun making them - i hope my recipients like them too :) I didn't realise how much cool stuff I had in my stash that I'd forgotten about!!!

I have been trying to also finish Christmas cards to send to my family and friends. I have been frantically cutting and gluing and my craft room currently looks like a fairy has vomited glitter everywhere!!!

I know bitch about how busy it is, but deep down I truly love the craziness! Christmas is totally my favourite time of year. Especially when you find THESE little gems at your local video store for sale!!!!!

These are my childhood memories or wonderful Christmases. Dad and I would sit together on the lounge and watch these moveis on Christmas Eve while mum did the final toches to the Christmas table, and we were allowed a few peices of ham before it was "done up nicely" for the table.
THEN to completely add to my excitement, the SMH then gave away my FAVOURITE christmas movie with the paper on Sunday! The lovely little man at the counter seemed a little shocked at my squeals of delight!

On another note, I am completely obsessed with several things at the moment...

Nuno Fabric (so, so , sooooo want to buy some!!)

Threadless Tshirts like this one (and with their $10 sale on, I might just have to buy it!)

My Friend Anika's things on Etsty (0049Design)

Ok, well posting time is over now - back to fun things like emails, phone calls, direct mailings, deadlines...ooo how exciting does that all sound!

Time Flies + Tagging

Goodness me, I've been so busy lately, and horribly slack with posting!! My laptop decided to maime itself a few weeks ago which has made it very difficult to post! Sitting in the library surrounded by rowdy school children really isn't the most creative atmosphere in which to post!!

The year is flying past so fast and as usual I am now doing a mad rush to make sure all my cards are out in time and trying to ensure I'm not spending Christmas Eve in a shopping centre - wandering aimlessly for that last gift!
My softies are now in the safe hands of Pip @ Mikes - hope they bring a smile to a childs face :)
I was also tagged a few weeks ago by the lovely Veronica Darling and haven't got around to completing it....so here goes! (My first tag!!!!)

First..The Rules..
A. Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves.
B. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog....so off we go!!!

1. My inspiration comes late at night:: Often I will sit around feeling completely un-creative, then as soon as I’m ready to go to bed and idea pops into my head and I am totally compelled to create something. The same happens with my house cleaning – I usually vacuum at 11.30 at night just as I’m about to jump into bed.

2. Music is my life:: I can’t go anywhere without my iPod. Music lifts me up or calms me down.

3. I suffer a few “wrong crushes” as defined by Marieke Hardy from “Reasons you will hate me”.
Mine include:
Julian Casablancas – Lead Singer of the Stokes. In some pics he’s gorgeous – in others I wonder what the hell I’m thinking!

Gerard Way – Lead singer of My Chemical Romance:: I’ve never been one for the “Emo” type, but there’s something about him that I find sexy! Hhmmm…I might just leave it at that actually!!!

4. I can be a bit OCD at times. Was discussing this with The Boy the other night, and I do have some obsessive compulsive tendencies! I have to leave a bit of food on my plate, I won’t eat ALL my bread-crusts – I have to leave at least one corner, I spell words out in my head if I need to remember something, I don’t step on cracks…..again, I’ll think I’ll stop there!

5. I love playing Monopoly – but am a very sore loser. Monopoly was actually banned in one house I lived in due to several tanty’s chucked by a housemate – this included knocking all properties off the board.

6. I wish I’d taken more time to listen to my grandfathers stories. Make use of the time you have with loved ones. Nuff said.

7. I’d love to be able to surf, but I’m not the strongest swimmer – I’m more of a runner. I’ve tried a few times to surf but it’s always been a miserable effort!!!

8. I'm a crazy Cat Lady:: well, not quite yet, but I do have an adorable kitty called Buttons. Ok, Well I’m sure you are WELL AND TRULY over listening to all these things about me!!! I don’t really know enough people on the interwebs to tage 8 people, but here’s a few I’d like to tag cause I read their blogs frequently….

Softies

Well this is a pattern that I am using from here: "The Pattern Bee"
It's a cute little lambkin pattern. My first attempt (above) was a little skewif - and the little dears legs don't work properly. I've called him "Lamey"

The second one was much better and has a "retro" feel to him. This one will be going to the Mirabel Foundation via Mikes.

The Third one is my best yet. She's still a little wonky on her legs, but she stands a lot better than Lamey does! This little lambkin is going to a christmas charity box we are collecting at work.

The whole family (you can really see how much better I get at making them!!)

I'll make a few more over the weekend - they're rather theraputic to make actually!!

OOooo..good news - Lady Aimz and I are having another stall! This time at a Rotary luncheon. The bad news is we only found out about it yesterday, which means I'll be up till the wee hours making things to sell!! Am super excited though :)

Sofites for Mirabel

"The Mirabel Foundation is an amazing organisation that supports children aged 0 - 17 who have been affected by parental substance abuse. You can find out more here. Many children lose a parent, are orphaned, are separated from their siblings or are left in the care of unprepared grandparents. "

Great Cause - I'm definitely going to make a softie for a kid.

I want a mini house...

...somewhere in a remote area with a stunning view....

These houses are just about the most adorable thins I have ever seen!! And they're practical as well!! Cheap and cheerful and you'd save a bucket on electricity / heating!! AND the best bit - some of them "travel"!!!

Bravia does it again....MILES of thread!!!

Oh my gooness....this one is nearly better than the bunnies!!! Imagine how many miles of thread would have been used!!!! (so many wardrobe refashions could have happened with this thread!!!

I just adore the colours in this ad!!

Bravia Bunnies

Well it has been a while since I posted, but I promise to be a little more diligent with my posts!

I have been waiting for this ad to come out for ages - and it's finally here. The Bravia bunnies. I think the sony bravia ads are up there with my all-time fave ads.

Loving these artists...

In my search for all things gorgeous, I came across this scrumptous work... by Amanda Visell.
It's got that 50's / 60's feels about it, like another of my fave artists...Josh Agle otherwise known as Shag

Been a bit slack!

Well darlings, Ive been a bit slack with the blog updates, but super busy with life!!!

First to the exciting news.....Lady Aimz and I had our first Jewellery party the other night and it was wonderful!! We were both REALLY nervous that no-one would buy anything, and agreed that we would be happy if we made $50 between the 2 of us.
End of the night and $340 later and we were both very happy chickies!!!
This was the mock set up of my section of the stall...

My "glasses chains" were surprisingly my best seller with a few people putting in orders for more!!

So now that I've sold a heap of stuf, I've got to be a busy little bee and make some more!! Hopefully I'll get some done over this APEC long weekend....as well as enjoy a few cheeky drinks :)

Flashback Friday

hhhmmm...seems I've always been a a bit of a poser!! good to see the bowl cut was starting to grow out by this stage though!

Busy, busy, busy!!

Well kids, I have been super busy lately, crafting my little butt off. Lady Aimz and I are hosting a jewellery party at the end of august. It’s a little daunting, but it will be good fun.

So in preparation, I bought a HEAP of beads from this fantastic website – “Rubber Nation”. I highly recommend them!! I have been a busy little bee making earrings, necklaces, glasses cords, bracelets and book marks.

I will post some more pics later (my stupid internet has been throttled!!)

Vintage Sesame Street

This video is why I loved dolls and kitties growing up. All I hope is when I have kids one day, they will appreciate the small pleasures like playing with doll houses (provided its a girl) rather than being hung up on playstations and nintendos..

This video still makes me happy!

Thrifing Tuesday

There is a devine little thrift shop down Blues Point Rd in North Sydney, (think it's called Poppy's) that I have been DYING to go into. Its only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-3, and I finally got time to go in today.

It is run by two funny little old ladies who are just so precious.

Today I picked up 2 vintage gift cards, 9 tortoise shell buttons, and a minature box with 3 old medicine jars filled with tiny little beads.
I asked the price, and she "ummed and arrhhhed" for a few minutes - tyring to remember if the cards were 10c or 20c, and the beads box had what looked like 50c, but she said "hmm...looks like 5c"

I said "I'll give you $5 for the lot" just because I felt terrible taking a box of beads for 5c!!!! She bluntly refused and said "no dear, you can give me $2 for the lot thankyou very much"

I think she felt she was ripping me off, and I was (although stoked) embarassed by only paying $2!! Anyway, here's my "Thrifting Tuesday" booty!!

Thrifting Goodness..

I had a lovely stroll around the Rozelle Markets today- I haven't been there in yonks. The LNB (lovely new boy) came with me - in fact it was his suggestion!!! (what a find ;)!! )

I was drawn to purchase a million goodies, but restrained myself to the following items

2 Sweet little teacups and saucers - $2 each!!! They are so delicate - they're almost "dolls tea party" sized.

A set of floral print vintage cigarette cards. They were a little exy at $20 for the pack, but I just couldn't go past them!!

A Camellia (spl?) Tin for $5. It's a little damaged, but I just adored the colours. The pictures don't really do it justice, but they're really vivid blues and fuchsias.

And last but not least, a vintage (can 80's be called vintage yet???) Woman's Weekly Cookbook. My mum has this one too - and I cook a mean Strawberry Shortcake from it, so I decided to buy one for myself.

However, despite the Strawberry Shortcake recipe in it, I REALLY bought it for the killer recipe for "Brawn" in it.

One night, one of my girlfriends and I literally nearly wet ourselves reading the description...

mmmmmm...Yum. Come Summer, I'll be cooking some old fashioned Brawn

Lovely Mail

A HUGE thankyou to Pip from Meet me at Mikes for the lovely package I recieved on Friday, for being first to enter their Macaroni Competition!!

I was very spoilt with some beautiful items. When I opened the package I was greeted with a lovely red bag adorned with a very cute pic (Eloise Wilken I think?)
And inside was a mass of loveliness including some vintage stamps, 2 gorgeous handmade cards, and an adorable apron wrapped in a recepie of yesteryear...
The Apron...
A close up of the print on the Apron..

Again, a super huge thankyou!!!!!

Flashback Friday (even though it's thursday night..)

The lovley Pip from Meet me at Mikes has joined the "Flashback Friday" posting started by Anglea at Sew Your Own.

I loved the idea kids- so I'm joining in!!

This is me and my beloved Gram and Graf. I really love this picture. The retro feel, the purple lounges - brilliant!

25 odd years later and I STILL love dolls :)

(and will you just look at my little sausage legs!!)

More Lovely Pressies in the Mail...

The darling Feli from Life in Mono sent me a gorgeous little package in the mail for winning her guessing competition.
It included a stunning pair of earrings (that will no doubt adorn my ears this weekend), a pretty card and a dear little "thankyou" notebook.

I was delighted when I opened it all up - Thanks Feli!!!

Make sure you check out her site - it's filled with delightful little goodies!!
