Neicephew's Potter Quilt...

I’ve made a start on neicephew’s quilt (I’ve named bubs "neicephew" as we still don’t know if it’s a boy of a girl!)

I’m going to do a leMoyne star in the middle alternating cream checked material and Peter Rabbit material, flanked by pale green triangles and I might add a yo-yo in the middle of the star. Then I’ll have squares around the star that are little scenes from the Beatrix Potter books. It’s a lot of fussy cutting and I’ve decided to sew it all by hand doing paper piecing.
In the long run I actually think it will be quicker, as I don’t have to spend time fixing up wonky edges and different seam allowances from when I use the machine. I MIGHT even try to hand quilt it.....ooooo....a bit daunting!! Doing it all by hand also means I can just pick it up at any time and do a bit. With machine quilting I tend to do it in spurts - i'll quilt every night for a week and then not do anything for a month. PLUS hand working it means it's perfectly neat too :)
On my mat you can also see my new leather thimble and a blue leather needle case that was my grandmas which I just love

Quilting Success

Well, 400 and something triangles later, and I've finally finished the top of my quilt!! (it's only taken a year and a half!)

I think I might take it into Material Obsession and get their help with what the hell I do next!! I have no idea whether to hand quilt, machine quilt in squiggles, lines, shapes or patterns!

I must say though, I'm pretty darn impressed with how its turned out!

Weekend Sewing

Well Mr Honi and I had a great weekend. We we went to the 50's Fair at Rose Seidler House whihc was wonderful! (some pics in a day or two)

Then we spent the rest of the the weekend chilling out together, going for a bushwalk, shopping and I managed to get a HEAP of sewing done. I fixed my ripped jeans and did another 30 odd squares for the quilt.

Here she is! BUT, I still need about 60 squares :( We laid it out then both of us lay ontop of it to measure the size. I'm sure there's an easier way though! Just needs about another 2-3 columns and maybe 1 more row.

It's come a LONG way since I started last year (below) but I don't think I'm going to be able to finish it by the end of Winter!!

Back into the swing of quilting...

Well this is the set up of my little crafty area. This pic is of my "inspiration corner". It's filled with things I love and pictures on the wall that make me happy and get my creative juices flowing.

After unpacking the last of the boxes the other night I am now free to potter away in here. So I've realised that I only have a few weeks left before the end of Winter - which was the goal to finish my quilt. It's long enough now - just needs to be a bit wider. I've tried to only use 2 squares of matching material which is proving challenging - but a very good excuse to get lots of fat quarters or scraps of materials from op shops!!!

I'm loving my new "self repairing cutting mat", fabric cutter, and chalk pencil!! Makes cutting and pinning squares sooo much easier!

Complete kindnes in the mail, and a return to blogging

Yesterday, I visited Ma and Pa and was very excited to find an intriguing package waiting for me. I ripped it open like a child at chrissie and was completely stoked to find the most wonderful little selection of goodies!!

The darling Kyla over at "Two peas in a pod" had sent me a little gift to "brighten my day" and did it ever. It was such a lovely, random, sweet gesture and I appreciated it sooo much. A million thankyous :)

Made me realise how much I have missed blogging and reading all the other wonderful blogs out there, with all of you kind hearted, thoughful bloggers :)

I have had a completely hectic month - here it is in a few words.....Hens Day, Bridesmaid, work presentation (talking in front of 1200 people)......Sydney>Adelaide>Sydney>Hunter Valley>Sydney>Brisbane>Sydney>Brisbane>Sydney>Melbourne>FINALLY HOME AGAIN!

Kyla, you have inspired me to get back into my blogging no matter how busy I am.
So to start me back into the swing, here is the progress of my quilt....
I am determined to have it finished before the end of Winter.
AND, I am super excited about the quilting and craft fair on next weekend, and Mr Honi has kindly agreed to join me....poor poppet will be frightfully bored, but at least I have someone to hold my shopping ;) He is a darling, who "gets me" and my crafting :)

WIP: Quilt

Well, slowly but surely, my first quilt is coming together. By the time I probably finish it Mr Honi and I will have frozen our toes off this winter!!!

Here is my pile of squares to sew

some sewn squares

and all the sewn sqaures laid out. I'm pretty happy with it- although I'll need to make sure the colours all blend in well. It's meant to have a white square in between each coloured square, but I kinda think I like it like this!

Quilt in Progress

Well here is the first pic of my "Whirlygig" quilt. It's my first attempt at a proper quilt.

I've got a long way to go yet, and there will actually be white squares in between each coloured square.
